Late Week Pickups: Round 14

Each week we’ll be taking a look at some late week pickup options so that you can get a win over your league mates.  With these late week pickup’s, they’re all based on players who you wouldn’t necessarily play week to week, but have a great round matchup against the team they’re playing.

When we talk about these late week pickup’s we use a rule of 65% ownership or less on ultimate footy, just to give everyone a fair go at adding these players to your list.  Also, these players are based off 22 man squads in SuperCoach and 26 for Ultimate Footy, so if you are in a league that has less than this then there will be better talent in the pool.

Jack Darling: Owned in 40% of teams on Ultimate Footy, Jack is still carrying the baby swag he got after the birth of his first child. And as we know there is nothing better than baby swag. Good news for Jack is that JJK is still another week or two away after suffering an Achilles injury. But even without all that Jack has an amazing record against the Dees, averaging 95 in Dream Team and 98 in SuperCoach, by far his best average against any other side.

Weather conditions are to be perfect in the west (when is it ever not?) and with the Eagles playing some good footy, Jack should be on the receiving end of the kicks inside 50.

Tory Dickson: The Bulldogs need to get going at some stage and why not do it this week against the Roos. In 48% of teams, Dickson like the Dogs have played in patches but we all know if Tory takes a few grabs he is one of the most accurate kicks for goal in the competition.

Sam Gilbert: Running around doing whatever he likes in defence, Gilbert has been averaging around the 20 disposals per game in the last month. Add that with 4 plus marks and that equals to some handy fantasy scoring. Up against the Suns this week and we all saw how well Blues defenders scored against them. If the Saints can pressure the Suns like the Blues did, then expect the Gilbert and the Saints defence to score very well this week. In 31% of teams.

Billy Hartung: Now that JOM has left Hawthorn to take part in the tv series The Walking Dead with Brett Deledio, Hartung’s position in the team should be more secure. Scored well before there bye and has been putting up some decent scores over the year. Ideal if you have some injuries in your team like Nathan Jones. In 60% of teams. Averaging 21 possessions a game, I like him more in your Dream Team scoring formats than SuperCoach.

Bailey Dale: Since he has come into the team, Bailey has taken his chance with both hands and is not letting go. Owned in 18% of teams, the mid/fwd has been a bit hot and cold but that is to be expected. I would be only putting him in my forward line in the F5 position as the Dogs are up against the Roos and I’m expecting them to tear them apart. Averaging 17 possessions and 2.5 marks a game.

James Aish: Came into the side before the Pies bye and scored very well. In 24% of teams and up against the Power, it was this time last year where Aish was able to cement himself in the team and had a pretty good finish to the year in terms of fantasy scoring with a ton in both formats and 80’s and 90’s throughout.

Good luck in your matchup’s this week!!
