Late Week Pickups: Round 15

Each week we’ll be taking a look at some late week pickup options so that you can get a win over your league mates. With these late week pickup’s, they’re all based on players who you wouldn’t necessarily play week to week, but have a great round matchup against the team they’re playing.

When we talk about these late week pickup’s we use a rule of 65% ownership or less on ultimate footy, just to give everyone a fair go at adding these players to your list. Also, these players are based off 22 man squads in SuperCoach and 26 for Ultimate Footy, so if you are in a league that has less than this then there will be better talent in the pool.

Rory Lobb: Back in the team this week after coming back from injury. Listed as a forward and owned by 43% of teams, I can’t see Rory spending too much time in the forward line with the likes of Patton and Cameron in good form. The best place for Rory will be down in defence with his great ability to take a contested mark.

Add to the fact that he can pinch hit in ruck contests especially with the Cats adding height in Zac Smith and Lachie Henderson, it will certainly push Mumford to his limits in his ability to sole ruck.

Mitch McGovern: McGovern returns to the team after tearing his hamstring earlier in the year. Owned in 23% of teams and kicking 5 goals in 2 weeks in the SANFL has McGovern’s return coming in at a handy time as Charlie Cameron and Good personality are both out due to injury and illness.

James Sicily: It was interesting last week watching the Hawks take on the Crows as we saw Sicily moved into defence where he was able to take 10 marks and pick up 25 possessions for the match. Listed as a forward and owned by just 12%, the Hawks are up against the Pies and we all know how defenders score against the Pies.

Tom Langdon: Playing his first game back after injuries, I’m writing this as a bit of a buyer beware. While I think Langdon is going to give you great fantasy value at the back end of the year, there has been a trend this year of players having a great first game back, but dropping off in the second. Owned by 50% of teams and has been a good fantasy scorer in the past, look to add him to your team.

Drew Petrie: I’m liking Drew Petrie this week who is up against the Western Bulldogs. A couple of things stand out to me here. The first is that the Dogs don’t have that tall, gorilla defenders to go with the likes of Petrie, so getting on the end of a few marks and getting shots on goal is one thing.

The other is that Petrie has been playing that pinch-hit ruck behind Vardy and as we all know the Bulldogs ruck division isn’t the greatest. Owned by 35% of teams, Drew’s last 3 week averages have been good with an 82 in Ultimate Footy and 87 in SuperCoach.

Good luck in your matches this week!!
