A DOZEN DEALS – ROUND 20

EACH WEEK I’ll be bringing you my thoughts on which players to BUY, SELL, HOLD, ADD and DROP in AFL Draft Leagues.  The moves are based on a 10 team redraft league with 22 players per team, so if your league is shallower, deeper or keeper, use your best judgement as to what moves apply.  Remember no-one HAS to trade with you, but the least you can do is make offers to try improve your team.  Also consider your league set up and team structure before making a move.  This is a list about value and treating your team as something that is constantly evolving to try get it as solid as it can be.  As I always say, “if you ain’t trading, you ain’t trying!”  You can hear the rest of my thoughts each week as part of the Draft Doctors Podcast released each Monday.

If you missed last week’s column, I’ll be brief but given most leagues are about to hit or have hit fantasy finals, your trade deadline has probably passed, so I’ll be focusing on add/drops from here out. If you DO have a trade question, feel free to hit me up on Twitter or Facebook via the usual accounts. Of course, without the trades, there’s a few less moves, I’m sure you’ll live:)

Injuries and suspensions from the weekend have left many a fantasy team with more holes than my undies. Never fear, there’s some players you can patch your team up with, even it the names are ones you’d rather not soil your team with. This is what draft is all about. Not being one of the sooks who takes their bat and ball and goes home. The one who digs in, Matt Renshaw style, and comes out with a win. Oh god, I made a cricket reference. Deals. Here.

ADD – MATT ROSA (M) – Okay, so his hammies have pinged more times than the Macca’s free WiFi, but Rosa is a viable add. Only 56% owned on Ultimate, he can score well and there’s points to be had for Gold Coast mids with Aaron Hall injured. A nice matchup v the Lions looms, the only danger is with Rocket Eade moving on the interim coach may drop the old boys. I find that unlikely, but do keep in mind. I can’t imagine the Suns tanking in the must-see footy that is the Q-Clash.

ADD – JACK DARLING (F) – Been consistent if nothing else, kicking multiple goals in all but 3 games this year. Started well on the weekend before JJK took over, expect him to kick a few against the Blues who have struggled over the last few weeks. 56% owned on UF, the maligned Darling is a reasonable play for mine.

ADD – A BARFY RUCK ( R ) – Okay, so rucks are out and people are reeling. I’ve been asked which way to go a few times. Sinclair? Roughead? Griffin? Darcy? Simpson? Cox? Okay, just kidding on that last one, but it’s a really tough spot to nail down who to add as we have no idea what team sheets will look like. I’ll say this – grab the solo ruck. It’s not a sexy thing to say, but the solo ruck gives you a better baseline than a timeshare. We’ve seen rucks score good in bad matchups and bad in plus ones (looking at you, Tom Bellchambers) so I’m aiming to go high floor by taking the easier points. As a Brodie Grundy owner, I grabbed Jordan Roughead (70%) and Dan Currie (33%) for cover. Dawson Simpson did dominate in the NEAFL on the weekend, so obviously in touch.

ADD – PETER WRIGHT (F) – 42% owned, Handsome Tom is down so now Wright is the main show in town. I would expect Keegan Brooksby to come in to man the other key forward post and possibly split ruck time, but Wright wasn’t really getting a lot of points from his ruck time. 2 out of 3 on the way home appear to be good matchups with Brisbane and North sandwiching Essendon. You could do worse.

DROP – DANIEL WELLS (M) – Had a monster two weeks ago, but clearly hobbled on the weekend and even if he comes up, I’d expect a lot of forward time. Also, the matchup against Port isn’t great, given they’ve generally been stingy giving up fantasy points.

ADD – RYAN BASTINAC (M) – Another frequent name on the list, Bastinac again scored okay on the weekend and is still at 65% ownership and has a good matchup against the Suns.

ADD – JARROD BERRY (D/M) – Getting more time in the midfield, Berry has scored at least 79 DT points in his last 4 starts, and like Bastinac, gets to take on the Suns this week. Lowly owned but is a handy pickup and flying under the radar.

Good luck in your matchups this week, if you’re playing finals, let us know how you go!
