A DOZEN DEALS – ROUND 21
EACH WEEK I’ll be bringing you my thoughts on which players to BUY, SELL, HOLD, ADD and DROP in AFL Draft Leagues. The moves are based on a 10 team redraft league with 22 players per team, so if your league is shallower, deeper or keeper, use your best judgement as to what moves apply. Remember no-one HAS to trade with you, but the least you can do is make offers to try improve your team. Also consider your league set up and team structure before making a move. This is a list about value and treating your team as something that is constantly evolving to try get it as solid as it can be. As I always say, “if you ain’t trading, you ain’t trying!” You can hear the rest of my thoughts each week as part of the Draft Doctors Podcast released each Monday.
If you missed last week’s column, I’ll be brief but given most leagues are about to hit or have hit fantasy finals, your trade deadline has probably passed, so I’ll be focusing on add/drops from here out. If you DO have a trade question, feel free to hit me up on Twitter or Facebook via the usual accounts. Of course, without the trades, there’s a few less moves, I’m sure you’ll live:)
I know the free agency pools are getting thin, but there’s some great options to help you in your matchups as always. We’ve started seeing league titles roll in and we’re stoked! We love seeing you guys win, it makes it all worth it. And these are your titles. We love talking players and options and moves, but at the end of the day, it’s your team and you’re making the decisions. Anyways, on to the deals….
ADD – JACKSON THURLOW (D) – Owned in only 28% of leagues, the Cats defender is back to fitness and has scored well in recent weeks with an 84 and a 90DT. We know defenders can score against Collingwood, so the matchup is handy also. More of a DT play than SC. There was a bit of buzz around Thurlow at the start of the year for salary cap, expect the same for draft next season.
ADD – KEEGAN BROOKSBY (D) – With Currie, Nicholls and Witts all done for year, the ruck cupboard is pretty bare for the Suns. Enter Keegan Brooksby, owned in only 11% of leagues on UF. Should be sole ruck, so you gotta love that. Has been in ok touch in the NEAFL as a forward. Has shown the ability to give 80+ scores at AFL level.
ADD – DANIEL MENZEL (F) – Hasn’t been a terrific season for the talented forward, but he’s had a couple of monster games against Collingwood in the past. Can that repeat? I’m not sure, but he is lowly owned at 44%. Risky, no doubt.
ADD – TIM MEMBREY (F) – Scored 74 DT 114 SC against North earlier in the year, so a nice bit of recent form for the key forward. Not that they’ll have it their own way against North, but the Saints have a lowly percentage fighting for finals and can make up some ground on the Bulldogs with a big win. Membrey is boom bust no doubt, so the floor is low. Only 62% owned in UF. Also like Jade Gresham in this matchup from St Kilda.
ADD – MATT ROSA (M) – He’s under 65% ownership, generally doesn’t kill you with his scores and is a mid. Have I ever mentioned midfield depth is a good thing to have?
ADD – BILLY HARTUNG (M) – 65% owned, has scored back to back 80+ DT scores, Hawks play Carlton. So given the Hawks stout defence and Carlton’s new attacking style, the Hawks should have a bit of transition ball. Could do worse.
Harley Bennell is 61% owned. If you’re rolling him out in what would be either your grand final or preliminary, please, let us know. We’ll make sure we tip our hats to the gutsiest person ever!
Good luck in your matchups of course. Get them titles!
