Each week I’ll take a look at captain options for those of us who don’t own Dangerfield, Mitchell, Merrett, Dusty or Kelly. Unfortunately, we all can’t own these players and have to look elsewhere. So, we are going to look at the underbelly of the weekly contests that hopefully can unearth some unique skipper options, including those in the loop hole games. Yes, some will be risky but that could be the difference of you getting your league win and staying in the hunt for finals action this year.
Captain Loophole for Thursday night
Another Richmond game, and even though there can be some outside options, really Richmond have Dusty and that’s about it when it comes to fantasy. Shaun Grigg was my roughie loophole pick last week and he pumped out a 59, Jacky boy was the only other to score a ton, so for loophole it’s all about the Crows this week. Gibbs, M Crouch, Laird, Sloane and Jacobs all capable to going big for you this weekend. My pick if you have him in Matt Crouch.
Best unique skipper options from this week remaining clashes:
North Melbourne v St Kilda
Gun: Jack Billings – Played a blinder to start with and just can’t see who in the Kangas can stop him. North will also be hurting from the trip and the conditions, so a few of the Saints will enjoy a big one. Steven to cop the Jacobs tag.
Captain Risky: Blake Acres – Scored 124 last week, the question will be if it was just one out of the box or a sign of things to come. Goldy may also have a big day with the Saints struggling for form in the ruck.
Carlton v Gold Coast
Gun: Patrick Cripps – I’m sure we can’t expect that good of a game each week but it was so impressive I simply have to list him this week. Fit, firing and scoring well.
Captain Risky: Brayden Fiorini – Yes, the conditions were tough last weekend, but they are always perfect under the roof and I expect this boy to have a few big games this year. Enjoy
Collingwood v GWS
Gun: Stephen Coniglio, Scored 146 against Western Bulldogs, fully fit after a great preseason. Kelly and Shiel will get any tags but then again they are playing Collingwood.
Captain Risky: Brodie Grundy – 84 last week but with Cox out is this the magic potion that gets the Pies and Grundy up and running in 2018. My answer is no but the Ruckman should still have a big day.
Brisbane v Melbourne
Gun: Maxy Gawn – Yes,, he is a gun and scored so well against the Cats. I also reckon he will want to have such a big game this weekend to make up for the missed goal.
Captain Risky: Dayne Zorko – Scored 125 the last time he played against the Demons, although he can have shockers like he did last week, pumping out a 57. On his day it’s a risk worth taking.
Fremantle v Essendon
Gun: Dyson Heppell – Massive game to start the season with, also has a good history against the Dockers with 121 in round 23 last year. Attention may come but he will need a few more big games yet.
Captain Risky: Bradley Hill – The last time this two teams played in Perth, young mister Hill took 16 marks on his way to 159. Unlikely to get has much freedom but may still have another day out.
Western Bulldogs v West Coast
Gun: Jack Macrae – Very hard to seriously pick anyone from this game, and as Jack is one of the most consistent it just has to go with him, but seriously look at another game.
Captain Risky: Elliot Yeo – Bulldogs just gave away so many points last week you think someone from the Eagles will be able to go beast mode, although plenty have the ability it’s the Yeo man that can go really big.
Sydney v Port Adelaide
Gun: Luke Parker – In great form and although hard not to name Buddy, Luke is more likely to end up with a higher average. It just shows what a good preseason can do for talent.
Captain Risky: Tom Rockliff – Who would of thought that the Pig could be a captain risky but here we are. This could all change so quickly, keep your eye out for the snout and be ready to offer a trade. Remember buy low, sell high.
Geelong v Hawthorn
Gun: Joel Selwood – Hard to think that he is the third midfielder! Yep, and boy without the attention he will score. Trade for him as soon as you can, it will be worth it.
Captain Risky: Jack Gunston – Has scored well against the Cats previously and their defence is not quite what it used to be, so he could have a day out.
