Late Week Pickups – Round 5

Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.

Tom Hickey: With an ownership at 52%, we have seen opposition ruckman take the Giants rucks to the cleaners when it comes to fantasy scoring. Things are lining up for Tom, with Rowan Marshall out after his head knock last week meaning the sole ruck is all his. The Saints will be looking to bounce back after a couple of bad losses and where else on their home deck of Etihad stadium.

Hickey has played only the 2 games against GWS and has averaged 104 in Supercoach and 99 in AFL fantasy. Only up against the might of Dawson Simpson, Hickey should be able to account for him and impose himself on the contest to give you a good score.

Mark Hutchings: It seems he his only being brought in to do a negating role when needed having dropped and brought into the team a couple of times already this year. Again, he has been brought into the team this week as he will be looking to stop Patty Cripps.

In 38% of teams he will be wearing Cripps like a glove. Now you won’t be playing him as midfielder in your team, but Hutchings has forward status in all forms of the game and would be a handy F5 to get you around 85 or more. Opposition mids have been scoring well against the Blues and I would be looking to add him to your team or any West Coast player for that matter to your roster.

Jarman Impey:  We spoke about Luke Breust as a waiver wire pick up on Monday’s show, but little did I realise that Impey came in under our 65% rule. At 59% ownership and no Cyril or Poppy for an extended period of time, I expect Impey to get a small boost in scoring in the meantime.

With his speed and goal sense, Impey should be able to cause headaches for the North Melbourne defenders and is capable of kicking multiple goals in a short period.

Wayne Milera: As the 3rd in line small forward at the Crows, behind Eddie Betts and Charlie Cameron, Milera gets his time in the sun. Cameron is now at the Lions and Betts is out for 2 weeks with a hammy. In 33% of teams Milera will likely start forward but push up into the midfield for periods as the Crows are currently short on mids.

Mileras PPM (points per minute) aren’t too bad, but I can see a bump especially if he can kick 2 goals and get his hands on the ball in the midfield.

Tom Barrass: I could have written about all West Coast players this week but that would be boring. This is more of a Supercoach pick as the Eagles are playing the Blues, their ball movement going inside 50 is not going to be great, at best so I’m expecting Eagles defenders to score well here and be rewarded for the marks from opposition, which in Supercoach is worth lots of fantasy points.

In just 29% of teams expect Barrass to get plenty of marks against the Blues.
