Late Week Pickups – Round 7
Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.
Jarryd Blair: This guy is only a violent sneeze away from missing 8 weeks, but when he plays he has shown to be a good fantasy scorer. In just 10% of teams, Blair is up against the Lions in which should be a win for the Pies.
Blair has a good average against the in Supercoach averaging 87 in his career including 2 tonnes in the last 3 matches against the Lions and 77 in AFL Fantasy which included 1 tonne in the last 3. Playing as the defensive forward, Blair will reward you with tackles and against the Lions can bob up and snag a few goals as well.
Lin Jong: If there is one thing Lin Jong is good at that is laying a tackle. Averaging 4.5 a game so far this year, the Dogs are up against the Suns in Ballarat. With the weather to be cold and showery you can expect a lot of contests which suits Jong and the Dogs.
In 57% of teams, Jong has only faced the Suns once in career back in 2016 where he scored 95 Supercoach and 91 AFL Fantasy. With the Suns fielding such a young team, expect a similar score for Jong this time around.
Eddie Betts: Back after his hamstring injury and in a plus matchup for the Crows, I’m expecting Eddie and the Crows to win convincingly against Carlton. In 45% of teams, Betts averages 78 in SuperCoach and 68 in AFL Fantasy against the Blues.
The Crows will move the ball quickly to give Eddie plenty shots on goal. People also forget his forward pressure is good too and averages 3 tackles a game. A tonne is on the cards for the great man.
Lewis Young: With the captain Easton Wood out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring, it was a no brainer to bring in another intercepting defender, especially with Handsome Tom sidelined for a month. In just 5% of teams, Young should be available in all pools.
The Suns haven’t been clean going inside 50 this year, which plays perfectly for Young and the Bulldogs defenders. In last year’s game Young had 16 possessions and 10 marks, scoring 79 SuperCoach and 71 AFL Fantasy points in just his second game of footy. I’m expecting him to score in the mid 80’s in both formats this week.
