Injuries For 07/05/18

You may have noticed a small change to my Twitter account @thepotatobake. I have undergone a formal name change. The handle stays, because I really do like potatobake, but the actual name is different. I am now Cameron McLachlan, and I would like to be referred to as the least successful, least paid, least notorious, AFL affiliated McLachlan. That being said, I would smash them at Fantasy and Tins.

Mid-week Madness!

A fair bit of kerfuffle has been made this week about Geelong’s ability to name a team and stick to it. And for good reason. For the second time in about 4 weeks Scott Selwood was named and subsequently withdrawn. I’m an owner, and a fan of Scooter, but zzzzzzz. Additionally, it looks like back spasms. I called it out last week, but how are back spasms so prolific this year?

Prognosis – No Issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here.

The Perth Governor was withdrawn after attempting to pass a new bill… err… kissing too many babies… err…. I have no idea what local politicians do, and nor do I care. Something something political joke.

Prognosis – New road – 1-2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Goodness! I never thought I would say this, but jump on the Western Sneeze, Brendon Ah Chee. Played his first game of the year, and with the West Coast midfield woes, should benefit from more time on the ball.

Shill got everyone a little excited when he received a blessing from the Fantasy gods, a DPP Defender status. Snapped up off most waivers faster than Kobayashi can smash a hotdog, there are going to be a lot of disappointed coaches out there, as failed to overcome the quad issue from last week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – He should play next week, but even if he didn’t, all the fantasy relevant players from Freo are likely in teams. No waiver here.

Swans vs Hawks

Well. This is a little awkward. First game of the round and not a single injury. Jarman Impey copped some crimson, but no real issue. I’m not saying I want someone to always get injured, because that would be cruel. I’m just saying that these AFL players need to stop being so selfish and consider the larger ramifications of NOT getting injured. If no one gets injured then they are going to put me out of a job that i’m not paid for.

Prognosis – Centrelink

Giants vs Eagles

Whomp Whomp. There goes Matt De Boer’s hammy, cursed by none other than the Draft Doctors curse. For weeks these guys have been telling you to pick this guy off the waiver, and now you can exclusively blame them.

Prognosis – Cursed Froghurt – 2-3 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – I have said it for 3 weeks now, but Aiden Bonnar HAS to be close.

Phil Davis Was knocked out running back with the flight, straight in to Jack Darling’s elbow. Not really Fantasy relevant.

Prognosis –  1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Just a bit of a serve for the GWS injury reporters here. The only assumption I can make, is that they have absolutely no idea what they are doing. Josh Kelly seems to be perpetually listed as 1 week, and for Kennedy/Tobes they are just TBC. Pick up your game. Every week it is more disappointing than the new Arctic Monkeys album.

Blues vs Bombers

I don’t know if anyone remembers that video that did the rounds a few years ago, where a soccer goalkeeper saves penalties with his face, over and over? I know that was staged, but it was a similar scene with Matthew Wright. I mean you can’t fault his effort, but after being split open, he got patched up and almost instantly hurt his ankle. It is close to the Benny Hill reel, but he just misses out. He was able to play out the game, but I would keep an eye on this.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Matthew Kennedy will likely come back in next week, though he is proving to be another Rhys Palmer.

Suns vs Demons

I totally get that this is the injury column and what-not, but special mention here to the Suns 2’s. Went 2 quarters completely scoreless, and scored 2 points in the other 2. 0 goals. hahahahahahahaha  *deep breath*

Prognosis – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The only real injury concern out of this was David Swallow – the guy has a significant history with knee injuries, and sat out the last quarter. The game was already beyond the Suns reach, and Mountain Dew tactically withdrew him. In the presser Dew mentioned that Swallow should be good to go next week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Crows vs Power

What a game. Neither side were playing the best football you have ever seen, but geez it had the excitement. The Showdown usually delivers, and a last minute goal to a new Port recruit showed just how far both sides have moved over the last year.

After returning from a severe case of hamstring awareness (all cases are severe), Tex again became aware, but this time of his glute. The guy has massive tree trunk legs, and I’m surprised that in such a short space of time, he is becoming aware of that. He did come back and play out the rest of the game though, after being told that yes, it is normal to have glutes. Keep an eye on this, at some point he is going to realise his calves.

Prognosis – Anatomy 101 – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Big Sauce is the other one, suffering from BACK SPASMS *insert dubstep*. He constantly went off to have it worked on, I wouldn’t expect him to miss, but keep a lookout.

Prognosis – Bangarang – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Dogs vs Lions

Not exactly relevant, but Aaron Naughton rolled his ankle in the first quarter, and it just didn’t look good. He couldn’t put any weight at all on it, could be pretty bad.

Prognosis – 6-8 weeks (pending scans)

Potential Waiver Pickup – The guy who plays wherever he is told, Jackson Trengrove, will likely come in to fill the void. The dogs will get an entirely new backline returning from injury in the next couple of weeks.

Bailey Dale has his shoulder worked on throughout the game, but played out the rest of the game. Keep an eye on this, every now and then a completely innocuous looking bump can turn into a lingering shoulder issue.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Saints vs Dockers

Time has gotta be ticking on Richo. Another loss, and except for one quarter, the team looked pretty darn awful. Still holding strong for my boot by round 10 prediction.

The official AFL website states, and I quote “St Kilda’s best player, Jake Carlisle.” This is reason enough why you can’t trust their reports. We’ll run with it here though. The GOAT Jake Carlisle was concussed by Nat Fyfe’s knee, in what shouldn’t, but will come under MRO scrutiny. It wasn’t a case of K.O. Jake was KTFO. On a side note, if you pronounce his last name phonetically, you can add it to 90% of Snoop Dogg songs.

Prognosis – Carlizzle my nizzle – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Roo’s vs Tigers

In the race to retirement, Jarrad Waite has been having a stellar year, and unfortunately today copped a bit of a corkie and couldn’t see out the day. The guy has been sitting on my waiver for the entire season, as he really is just a soft breeze away from retirement.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Pies vs Cats

A bit of a whomp fest down at Collingwood with Jamie Elliott and Darcy Moore both going down with a hammy.

It has been a frustrating year for Jamie, seemingly on the cusp of a return every week, then finally makes his return to the VFL and WHOMP straight out.

Prognosis – 4 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Chris Mayne… Oh god. I never thought I would say this, but geeze. The MANG! He is going to remain in the team with Jamie copping a new whomp, and to be fair, his pressure has been immense. As has his hair.

Darcy on the other hand, had at least returned to the AFL, only to be whomped out of existence. Darcy Moore? More like Darcy Less… lel.

Prognosis – 2-4 weeks (pending severity)

Potential Waiver Pickup – Expect Ben Reid to come back here, but realistically, nothing relevant. Look away people.

A bit of a surprise packet this year, Tom Phillips was unlucky to get KTFO after kicking a ripper of a goal. It was a case of friendly fire being turned on again, with Chris Mayne coming across with a knee to the face.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Could see a reshuffle and a debut for Brayden Sier, or Levi Greenwood may be ready, however job security will be an issue for whoever comes in.

Finally Pendles was a late out for the game. They thought he would get up at the final minute (I guess?) and then he didn’t. Would put money on this being precautionary, and he will be back next week.

Prognosis – No issue
