Late Week Pickups – Round 9
Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.
Heath Grundy: The big man has been in a rich vein of form lately. Grundy has been averaging 104 in Supercoach and 93 in AFL Fantasy. Steve spoke on the pod that the Swans have a pretty good run fantasy wise, with matches against Freo, Brisbane, Carlton and St. Kilda.
In just 47% of teams, Grundy has been averaging 10 marks and 23 possessions a game in the last 3 weeks. With the Swans draw against the above-mentioned teams, not only is Grundy a good late week pickup, but a viable on field option for the next month.
Mark Blicavs: Listed as a mid-only this year, there hasn’t been a lot of love for Blicavs this year. Still owned in 60% of teams, his year in terms of fantasy hasn’t been stellar. I feel all this is about to change as in the last 2 weeks, Blicavs has been playing in defence and then using his endurance to get around the ground and help where needed.
If this trend continues, then a sneaky chance at adding defence status could be on the cards.
Shaun McKernan: I never thought I would be writing about this guy in a late week pick up article. With Joe Daniher down for the count with OP for the next few weeks, McKernan gets another crack in the top flight.
In 52% of teams and his role in the team secured for the next few weeks, the Dons will be looking at him as the main forward target. Playing against the Cats this week, who have allowed teams a lot of shots on goal this year, he will have ample opportunity to snag himself a bag of goals this week. He is also there back up ruckman and as we know the Cats having been giving up massive ruck points this year as well.
