Round 10 Injuries
Mid-week Madness!
George Costanza copped a dreaded bout of general soreness whilst working on the Penske file through the week. He was overheard having a conversation saying, “you say you are sore, and when anyone asks, you make a cringing face, it works every time Jerry!”
Prognosis – When you look sore all the time, people think that you’re sore – no issue
Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here
Callum Mills was savagely attacked by De Goey’s dog this week, suffering a broken foot in the process, and ruling him out for the season. Look it probably isn’t De Goey’s dog, but I like to think of Callum Mills going full Walker Texas Ranger and delivering a roundhouse to some poor chap at the pub.
Prognosis – Callum Mills once threw a grenade and killed 50 people, then it exploded – Season
Potential Waiver Pickup – It looked like Zac Jones dropped back to fill this role, however the Swans as a fantasy team are mostly irrelevant this year. Don’t do it.
Pies vs Dogs
Travis Varcoe’s night ended prematurely, so the pies were able to win. He suffered the weeks first hammy whomp in the third quarter and didn’t return. He has a history of soft tissue and being soft.
Prognosis – 3 weeks
Potential Waiver Pickup – Daniel Wells to come straight back in the squad. Didn’t set the world on fire in his first couple of games for the season, however will be better off for the rest. Cause he’s old. And old people need rest.
Zaine Cordy suffered delayed concussion effects which is usually never a good sign. The Dogs get a truckload of Defenders back in the next couple of weeks, after they all got through their VFL games.
Prognosis – 1 week
Potential Waiver Pickup – Any of the Dogs returning backline, though I usually stay away from key defenders.
Tigers vs Saints
For those who have been worried about the form of Jack Billings, you can rest assured, that Allan Richardson says he definitely turned a corner this week. Lol.
More interesting in this game is that the Tigers were able to beat the Saints, while missing two players for most of the match.
Jack Riewoldt went down in the first couple of minutes, copping a clothesline from Jake Carlisle.
Prognosis – 1 week
Potential Waiver Pickup – Don’t bother, Hardwick hates fantasy.
Boxcar Houli also went down in the first with groin soreness and failed to return to the game
Prognosis – 1 week
Potential Waiver Pickup – As above
Dunstan checked in (obscure ape movie reference), and then seemingly checked out after a shoulder complaint. He finished the game, but he wasn’t a factor in the contests, which resulted in a poor fantasy score.
Prognosis – 1 week
Potential Waiver Pickup – Mav Weller has been serviceable as a forward, getting up the ground and applying tackles. He should come back in, with Ammo another chance, though he is quite stanky.
Swans vs Lions
The Recruit winner Matt Eagles came off with an abdominal strain, and promptly registered for the next season of Bachelor in Paradise.
Prognosis – 3-4 weeks
Potential Waiver Pickup – Jack Frost could be a smoky, had a blinder in the NEAFL. Wouldn’t be hard to keep Eagles out when fit either.
Cats vs Blues
Look, I’m a Cats fan alright, so it is hard to be impartial sometimes. That being said the Cats are playing some awful footy. Per the numbers they lost the midfield battle, which given the names on either side of the team sheets, you wouldn’t think possible. Big questions coming about their structure. And can we talk about this game *gag*. Can we talk about the *gag*. Hmm… This game was awful.
Esava Ratugolea suffered a gruesome injury, in what looked like a completely snapped leg. He was given the whistle and stretchered from the ground. Bit of a shame as he has had a great season to date. Reports have confirmed it is a broken ankle rather than leg, which is a bit like saying only part of you was set on fire.
Prognosis – Season
Potential Waiver Pickup – Harry Taylor may come back in next week, and if not look for Zac Guthrie or Wylie Buzza to get a call up – neither are worth taking a punt on though.
There were a couple of corkies to Patrick Cripps and Sam Kerridge, I would be surprised if either missed a game.
Prognosis – No issue
Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here
Giants vs Bombers
The commentary team was on absolute fire with this game… almost literally. There was some backburning going on in the Blue Mountain region (40km away…) and it blew directly to the stadium (apparently) and was affecting the players. They all survived the game many listeners were lost listening to the commentary.
Only one knock to talk about in this game, with Mini-Kelly, aka Tim Taranto coming off with a quad corkie. The kid can play, but he has probably earnt a rest.
Prognosis – 1 week
Potential Waiver Pickup – You know I’m going to say Aiden Bonar. The guy is crushing the NEAFL. Give him a game.
Hawks vs Eagles
So, the Eagles finally got a win over in Melbourne huh? If we didn’t watch it. Did it really happen? I’m going to say… no. Bloody flat trackers.
Both teams got away with no major issues. Nic Nat Paddy Whack and Chris Masten both spent time on the bench getting their back and hammy worked respectively
Prognosis – no issue
Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here
Crows vs Demons
Somebody call Constantine (Van Hellsing et al) because there be Demons on the loose. This was a straight up massacre in the Northern Territory.
Paul Seedsman was a late out, suffering an adductor injury. This type of injury has plagued him over the last couple of years, and it is definitely one to keep an eye on.
Prognosis – 2 weeks
Potential Waiver Pickup – Curtley Hampton should play his first game of the year. There could be a couple of other changes with the Crows getting beaten just… oh… so… badly.
Luke Brown was smashed in the first quarter and failed to play out the game. 0 relevance in any format.
Prognosis – 1 week
Potential Waiver Pickup – All sorts of changes to come at the Crows this week, though there weren’t exactly a lot putting their hands up in the SANFL. Focus all your efforts on Curtley.
Dockers vs Roos
Kayne Turner, Sam Durdin and Aaron Sandilands all suffered pretty heavy head knocks in this one, with Durdin somehow clashing heads with Sandi’s head. No idea how this is even possible. Even at full stretch, and a proper vertical leap, Durdin should get to what? His chest?
Prognosis – 1 week (Kayne Turner may play)
Potential Waiver Pickup – Just the one week off, and all 3 are locks in their starting side. I wouldn’t invest in a waiver pickup.
Has anyone got a Fragile this side up sticker? Just plant it right on old mate Walters forehead. Sure, he Walters’ed is way to 125, but every time he goes for a tackle, or bump, or mark, or walk, he is a small chance of a season ender. He copped a bit of a limp in the third quarter but managed to finish strongly.
Prognosis – Fragile – no issue
Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here
