Injuries for Round 17

For those that listened to the POD, yes it’s true, my puppy p****d all over my doona, and it is likely going to miss the next day or so. I expect it will suffer lingering effects for a number of years, and it will never be the doona it once was.

Side note: Anyone who calls a doona a duvet; get out.

Mid-week Madness!

Big Harry Taylor has been struggling all year with a recurring foot issue, and it was no different this week. He managed to play 2 games in a row, and the Cats are saying he should be good to go next week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Seb Ross was spending more time vomiting this week than a catwalk mode and bowed out of the fixture due to illness.

Prognosis – I’m a model, you know what I mean, I do my little *vom*

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Mr 3:16 himself was an out this week, with Stone Cold Logan Austin sustaining a groin injury. Not sure what is going on at the Saints, seems to be groin city at the moment. Is that somewhere you would want to visit? Groin city? It could really go either way.

Prognosis – 1-2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Ed Phillips proved yet again that he has the right stuff for Fantasy, busting out an 82.

Darcy Lang picked up an unnoticed ankle injury last week and missed the game. Rumour has it that he is still recovering from being sent to the hotdog stand by Luke Hodge, and then denied entry by Cam Raynor last week. (if you haven’t seen em yet, go search for those two moments)

Prognosis – 2-4 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – If he is still available (which he won’t be) get on Zac Fisher. Otherwise, steer clear.

The Bont had his appendix out this week, and subsequently missed. Bevo reckons he is going to miss another week and then should be right to return.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver – there really isn’t anyone else worth looking at down at the kennel.

After proving to be a super handy waiver pickup, Hayden Crozier disappointed his owners (all 83% of you, including me) by being listed as injured. It was listed as hamstring tightness, which is usually a week off. Should be back next week, not a whomp.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Jack Viney, like Harry Taylor before him, has struggled to get a run (I don’t know if that’s a pun or not to be honest) at it with recurring foot issues. This one was a toe flare up, and good news for owners, they caught it before there was actual damage to the bones. They will reduce his workload for the next couple of weeks to get him right in the load up to finals.

Prognosis – 1-2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Before the game, I would have said watch JKH. After the game I’m saying there is no relevant FA’s.

Another foot injury coming out of the demons, with Billy Stretch suffering a stress fracture in his small toe.

Prognosis – This little piggy went all the way home – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – As above.

Matt De Boer is set to miss a couple of weeks with a new hammy whomp.

Prognosis – 2-3 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Expect Lids to slot back in the side next week.

After showing to everyone that he is the inferior (for now) Brayshaw (yet still better than James), Andrew Brayshaw is going to miss some games with a groin injury.

Prognosis – 2-3 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Dejected Brad Hill owners could be a trade target this week. Also, keep your eyes on Harley…

Cats vs Crows

An easier game for me to write up than it was to watch (as a Cats fan) with the only injury coming out of the game to Conor Mcgregor. Just like when he fought Diaz the first time, Conor was absolutely smashed early. Unlike Conor however, Touhy managed to play out the game after passing the concussion test. Keep an eye on it as delayed concussion is the new black.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Saints vs Blues

I posted on Twitter about this, but for the second week in a row, I am reporting on a Blues player with an elevated heartbeat and shortness of breath. Matty Kreuzer left the ground in the first quarter after what looked like a pretty soft tackle. Watch this space because it has all the signs of a bad sports science program.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Webslinger himself Jimmy Webster suffered a recurrence of a groin issue that has plagued him all year, spending the fourth quarter iced up and leaving owners with a paltry 66 AF.

Prognosis – Spiderman yeah! – 1-3 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Pending how long he is out, Ed Phillips stocks rose further with this injury.

Lions vs Hawks

Luke Hodge was a late out with calf bruising that he picked up midweek. I know this is usually an old man joke, but bruises legitimately just take longer to heal the older you get. And he is old. Like really old.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Dogs vs Demons

Billy Gowers and Josh Schache both had little niggles throughout the game (ankle and knee respectively). The Dogs have reported a clean bill of health, but I would watch this space as both could become an issue midweek. For now, though…

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Suns vs Bombers

I reported Steven May as likely to miss a couple of games due to a hip injury last week. He ended up playing this week but landed hard from a marking contest in the third quarter and was clearly hobbled. After the game Mr. Dew reported that he is fine and will play next week, though I would keep an eye on it. The Suns have nothing to play for this year, and there is no point risking arguably their most important player.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Fire Truck will return next week, though I doubt he will be on any waivers. Just stay far away from this team.

Giants vs Richmond

Both teams seem to have come away unscathed from this one, with only a minor concern to Sam Reid, suffering a shoulder injury early in the third term. He returned to play out the game though. And geez weren’t GWS a different side with Tobes in the team. He didn’t even do that much, but their pressure and efforts were infinitely better.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Pies vs Eagles

The biggest injury to come out of this game, and maybe the week, was Nic Nat hurting his GOOD knee. He will go for scans tomorrow, however Adam Simpson believes it will be his season done unfortunately.

Prognosis – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – Lycett will likely handle the bulk of the ruck work for the rest of the season.

In his comeback game, Darcy Moore copped another injury. It sounds far worse than it is, with the lad dislocating his finger in the second term but playing out the game after having it popped back into place.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

The second man-child to debut this year, Brayden Sier, whose last name is actually pronounced SIRE, not SEA-ER, for some reason, copped a corkie to his quad in the third term and was unable to return to the field.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Big Mase from Bad Boy Records was a late out this week, however should be right to go next week.

Prognosis – Feel So Good – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Roos vs Swans

Josh Kennedy retired hurt with a lower back injury. Usually more common. Looked to me like it was a spasm, usually a pretty innocuous cause, and can have lingering effects for weeks. Hoping for owners that he is right to go next week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit injured and you never come around. Kane Turner got KTFO early in the game did not return.

Prognosis – 1 Week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Not a like-for-like, but I think Jacobs will be back next week.

Dockers vs Power

Robbie Gray, the guy everyone loves to hate got KTFO in a sling tackle by Ryan Nyhuis early in the third quarter.

Prognosis – 1 Week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Jack Trengrove for a speccy.

Paddy Ryder was the second big name ruck to go down this week, with a hip flexor injury in the second term.

Prognosis – 3-4 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Matthew Lobbe… you couldn’t, could you?
