Late Week Pickups – Round 18

Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 75% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.

Dan Menzel: Back in the team last week and suffice to say he had little impact on the game. Back on their home deck this week against the Dees this week, Menzel will look to bounce back.

In just 47% of teams, we have seen Menzel been able to kick bags of 3+ goals numerous times. Menzel’s last 2 games a GMHBA stadium have returned scores of 104 & 108 Supercoach points and 88 & 85 AFL fantasy. Menzel had a hot start to the year which included 3 Supercoach 100’s and 1 AFL fantasy 100 before his injury. In the round 1 game against the Dee’s he kicked 4 goals, 15 possessions and 6 marks. We should see him get close to this again on Saturday night.

Robbie Tarrant: We spoke about Tarrant on the show as a matchup this week against the Pies. In 52% of leagues, the Pies have been giving up points to defenders this year as we saw last week with the Eagles.

Tarrant has been up and down with his scoring this year but if he can peel of his opponent and fill the space he can take plenty of marks and rebound the ball out of defensive 50. Should give you a decent score this week.

Josh Walker: Never in my wildest dreams I would have thought of thinking this is fantasy relevant in any way, shape or form. But he has proven us all wrong, especially in the last month since Harris Andrews has been out of the team.

In just 12% of teams, Walker has been thrown down back to cover the Andrews injury and hasn’t looked out of place. He is more suited to the Supercoach scoring format where he is averaging 90 in the last 4 weeks compared to 68 in AFL Fantasy. In that time, he has averaged 17 possessions and 7 marks a game. This may be the last week to roll him out as Harris Andrews has been cleared to play and is available for selection next, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Daniel Rioli: Another one who is more suited to the Supercoach scoring but has been putting up some good AFL Fantasy scores since coming back into the team. Rioli is in just 52% of teams and has been playing well since returning.

Rioli builds his scores from goals and tackles from his pressure in the forward 50. Up against the Saints this week, the ball should be coming in quite regularly allowing Rioli a chance to kick a bag of goals and lay plenty of tackles.
