Statesman’s Skippers Round 18
Each week I’ll look at captain options for those of us who don’t own Dangerfield, Mitchell, Merrett, Dusty or Kelly. Unfortunately, we all can’t own these players and have to look elsewhere. So, we are going to look at the underbelly of the weekly contests that hopefully can unearth some unique skipper options, including those in the loop hole games. Some will be risky but that could be the difference of you getting your league win and staying in the hunt for finals action this year.
Apologies for being off the grid for the past couple of weeks, had to give the real career some priority during a peak period and now back to the #brand, as I am sure I will be given some stick for being off brand a little bit in recent times.
Captain Loophole for Friday night:
St Kilda v Richmond
Not the most fantasy relevant teams this season, but still worth trying the loop hole to set up your weekend, so just pick any player you have from these teams and hope for the best. Dusty, Stevens, Steele and Billings all worthwhile and remember that Richmond have given up big scores to defenders this year as they zone off so Savage and others are a worthwhile punt this week.
Best unique skipper options from this week remaining clashes:
Collingwood v North Melbourne
Gun: Brodie Grundy: Had a quiet game last week and is up against Goldy who has been playing well but I can just see him bouncing back well.
Captain Risky: Steele Sidebottom – High in the attention ranks and has struggled since Treloar has been out of the side so is a risk, although with Jacobs out could he repay his owners.
Sydney Swans v Gold Coast
Gun: Isaac Heeney – Has been a model of consistency (outside his concussion). He is set for a big one against the team that is giving up the most points. The Suns decided not to bring in their senior bodies so should be a good day for most of the Swans stars.
Captain Risky: Luke Parker – Was everywhere last week, but just could not get his hands on it – I know as a Salary cap owner. This week will be different and should score very well.
Essendon v Fremantle
Gun: Devon Smith – C’mon we all know lunch meat is better than Pizza. He has turned into a jet this year through the midfield as he is tackle crazy. Will be big again this week.
Captain Risky: Michael Walters – What is going on here? Can be a scoring gem but just lacking that midfield time that I thought he would get with Fyfe out. Risky one here!
Brisbane v Adelaide
Gun: Dayne Beams – On a hot streak, has known to get injured or have a form slump but right now he is hot and scoring like an uber premium, enjoy if you own.
Captain Risky: Rory Sloane – Although you should feel comfortable, Berry has done some good roles in recent times it just depends on who he goes too.
Geelong v Melbourne
Gun: Max Gawn – Geelong rucks are hit and miss, you have to think against the best in the business it will be a miss this weekend.
Captain Risky: Patrick Dangerfield – Now I understand that there is not many that would be a risky option after scoring 150 the previous weekend but he has not been at this scoring best and does not have a great history against Melbourne.
Carlton v Hawthorn
Gun: Patrick Cripps – Yes Tommy is obvious but Patrick Cripps is a dead set gun and his year has been super impressive, with and without attention. Averaging 115 in his last 5 games.
Captain Risky: Jack Gunston – Someone will be the winner with Sic Dog out and last year it was Jack that was sent back and did a great job. It will be him or Ryan Burton that will be the winner from the injury.
West Coast Eagles v Western Bulldogs
Gun: Andrew Gaff – Just been fantastic, still struggle to select him myself after many burns but the stats simply do not lie – Gun.
Captain Risky: Luke Shuey – Never the Fantasy pin up boy but his form in recent times has been very impressive and teams are scoring well against the Bulldogs.
Port Adelaide v GWS
Gun: Justin Westhoff – Will be interesting with Patrick Ryder out, one would assume that if left in the Ruck role will dominate around the ground – watch with interest.
Captain Risky: Lachie Whitfield – Massive score last week, but the risk is if he will be left to roam the half back line against Port – if so will be big again.
