Injuries for Round 18

The DT Talk Live event was a whole bunch of fun, and it was great to get along and throwback a few beers with the broader community.

And so, for the third time this year, Cameron McLachlan makes his way onto the short-term injury list, suffering a two-day hangover. Polite pints turned into danger zone pretty darn fast, and I was taken off at half time. After a couple of days rest, should be good to go again next week.

Prognosis – Impolite pints

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Mid-week Madness!

Going into writing this section, I would have said that the Suns could ill-afford to lose arguably their best player that isn’t in the NEAFL. Turns out, it made them better? Some kind of bizarro-world effect as the injury to Jack Martin seemingly made the team better. He sustained a calf injury through the week, and there is very little information floating round which makes me think it isn’t too severe.

Prognosis – 1-2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Fiorini should be back next week, he is bashing down the door in the NEAFL.

SicDog suffered a broken wrist this week at training. In a massive turn of events for owners, losing one of the best defenders of the year. Will likely impact a lot of team’s finals aspirations.

Prognosis – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – Was really looking for Ryan Burton to stand up in this one, but given they were playing the witches hats, it was hard to gauge if his role will change. He certainly didn’t set the world on fire. If you are desperate for a Hawks defender and he is still available on the waiver, give him a go and sit him on your bench.

After being completely overshadowed in the AFL Fantasy DPP announcements by Dangerforward, Ryan Griffen went back to Quahog, complaining of a hamstring injury.

Prognosis – 2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Hopper is still floating around on a lot of waivers, might be worth a speccy.

Saints vs Tigers

Given there were no actual injuries in this game besides the usual niggles, I’m going to add anyone that chose to use this game as a platform to complain about the state of the game or Friday night fixtures to the injury list. This was a game for charity, and therefore it needed to be exposed to a larger audience, and hence was given the Friday night fixture. Some things are bigger than your entertainment.

Prognosis – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – Booooooo

Pies vs Roos

It seems that after having most of the year off, Darcy Moore actually needed Moore time… Geddit?! Moore time! Turns out this isn’t even a joke. Darcy’s hammy pulled up sore in the warm up and was a late out. Scans will confirm the severity of the injury recurrence on Monday. From my perspective, I’m putting a line through him for Fantasy. You just couldn’t trust a guy coming back from injury, who hasn’t played many games all year, to score well in your finals.

Prognosis – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – Josh Smith is looking the goods in the twos. He isn’t a like-for-like replacement (much shorter), but may still get the call up after two impressive games.

I swear the majority of the Kangas team looked like the end of a Tarantino film; blood everywhere. The following players received minor cuts that should heal in time for next week:

  • Jed Anderson
  • Jack Zeibell
  • Todd Goldstein
  • Luke McDonald

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

It’s a different story for Scott Thompson who looked like Red Skull (aka. Hugo Weaving’s character from Captain America) for the entire match. Gross.

Prognosis – 2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Owned by just 59%, Ryan Clarke has been horribly inconsistent, however may see a lift in numbers if Thommo is to miss.

Suns vs Swans

Both teams reported a clean bill of health, but the same can’t be said for punters everywhere. A massive multi-breaker here. Who saw this coming?

Dockers vs Bombers

Shaun McKernan will miss the rest of the Fantasy year, with the big man sustaining a high hammy whomp in the second term. He had been on a hot run of form, and whilst the Dons say he is still in the plans for the club, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him ask for a trade for more game-time at seasons end.

Prognosis – Season

Potential Waiver Pickup – Aaron Francis could be the beneficiary, but I wouldn’t pick him up.

Ruckman Sean Darcy did his best to troll former Nic Nat owners, by being a late out due to groin soreness. I am sure there were many-a-donuts taken on the field, in what is the penultimate match in a lot of leagues.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Scott Jones may get a look as the sole ruckman, or in tandem with Apeness. I would be looking elsewhere for a ruck replacement though.

Crows vs Lions

Tom Doedee and Lachlan Murphy both sustained concussion and will be monitored through the week. I had this big bit written up that essentially was just calling Tom, Tom Doodee Head. Clearly, I deleted all this and went with nothing, because surely I’m better than that….

Potential Waiver Pickup – Brodie Smith should be on everyone’s watchlists. Will be available on most waivers and had a great comeback in the SANFL. Likely won’t be considered for selection until he has two or three games under his belt. Could still make a handy D5 in finals. People have already jumped on, in 56% of teams.

Demons vs Cats

Another game without any major injury concerns. I don’t know about you, but my league is basically locked in as far as the top 8 go, and I would hate to lose players to injury this week with absolutely nothing on the line.

Blues vs Hawks

Jaeger Bomb has had a surprisingly injury free (comparatively) season, until he was a late out this morning due to a hip complaint. Owners can breathe easy for now; it wasn’t his knee.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

The Blues also lost a man from their originally named line-up, with Daisy Thomas being withdrawn due to a lacerated knee. Seriously just adds to the Tarantino theme of the week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Compounding this, the guy that looks like he has no upper torso, Zac Fisher limped from the ground midway through the first quarter with a left ankle injury. Will undergo scans tomorrow to confirm the severity.

Prognosis – 3-4 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Matt Kennedy finally gave a four-quarter effort.… and finished with a Fantasy ton. Scary, but you could grab him for your bench.

Liam Jones suffered a bad corkie, and at that time the Blues had barely scored a point, and so they saw no point in bringing him back.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Daisy will slot back in next week, as will Kreuz. No relevant waiver here.

Dogs vs Eagles

Remember in 2017, the preseason was all about Luke Dahlhaus as a must own, and potential first forward. Well fast forward almost two years and as an owner you will be completely disappointed… and now to make it worse… He has a suspected Syndy. Syndy’s take a long time to heal, and generally will be diagnosed as 4 weeks, but linger through to a couple of months.

Prognosis – 6 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – The Bont is on track to make his return and should slot in nicely.

Mitch Honeychurch got properly knocked and sent to hospital. Bevo is confident he will be ok, but he will have scans on his neck to verify there is no deeper injury there.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Power vs Giants

No reported injuries from either side, however Donuts Motlop was a late out due to sickness. Well to be fair, we were all sick of his shit score last week, so I guess we’re even.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver
