Late Week Pickups – Round 22

Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.  Some of you may be in the middle of your finals, while some of you are about to climb that mountain for ultimate success, here are some players to help you get over the line in your matchups this week.

Paul Puopolo: A great matchup this week with Poppy and the Hawks up against the Saints. The Saints have put the cue in the rack for the year while, the Hawks will be trying to cement a top 4 spot.

Poppy is easily available in most leagues, with an ownership of 18%. As the small pressuring forward, Poppy is always up for a big amount of tackles as well as getting his hands on the ball and snagging a few goals. We’ve seen in the previous 2 weeks from the Dogs and Bombers that the small – mid forwards all were able to kick a small bag against the Saints.

Dan Menzel: Hasn’t really been able to capture his early season form but I am liking him this week as the Cats have an easy game against the Dockers. With rain, hail and thunderstorms expected tomorrow, we can expect Menzel to sit on the outside of the pack waiting for the cheapies as the big body guys extract the ball.

In 38% of teams, Menzel is capable of scoring the ton, but realistically I’m looking more in the mid 80’s in both formats. Also, if you’re playing in your preliminary finals this week he’s a good hold as the Cats have the Suns in the last round at the ‘Cattery’ to ensure they make finals.

Jarrod Lienert:  Has looked solid since coming into the Power line-up a month ago. I would have named any other Port defenders but they’re all over the 75% ownership, so I guess your stuck with this guy.

In 63% of teams has scored quite well since coming into the team averaging 88 Supercoach and 76 AFL Fantasy points in his 3 games. Lienert has averaged 18 possessions (14 kicks 4 handballs) and 6 marks a game. Pretty handy especially as the Power are up against the Pies who have been giving up the points to opposition teams.
