Statesman’s Skippers Round 22

Each week I’ll look at captain options for those of us who don’t own Dangerfield, Mitchell, Merrett, Dusty or Kelly.  Unfortunately, we all can’t own these players and have to look elsewhere.  So, we are going to look at the underbelly of the weekly contests that hopefully can unearth some unique skipper options, including those in the loop hole games.  Some will be risky but that could be the difference of you getting your league win and staying in the hunt for finals action this year.

Captain Loophole for Friday night:

Richmond v Essendon

Well some egg on my face for not picking Jack Riewoldt as my captain risky last week, owners would have loved their 192 points.  He could have another good night out, but I can’t see a repeat of that feat.  Outside Jack and Dusty the other options seem to be wearing the red sash.  Devon Smith, Dyson Heppell and Zach Merrett are the best options tonight.

Best unique skipper options from this week remaining clashes:

Collingwood v Port Adelaide

Gun: Brodie Grundy: He was easily going to be the number 1 pick for this game and now we have Ryder injured and maybe a late out, sign me up.

Captain Risky:  Steele Sidebottom:  Yes, he has had a quiet month, but he should shine in this game as he is unlikely to be tagged.  If you held him, you should enjoy this week.

Geelong v Fremantle

Gun: Danger – Several players could go big with so much to play for, this man has a massive ceiling and will go big this week.

Captain Risky:  Gary Ablett – Continued his great scoring against the Hawks last week but has less of a record against the Dockers, also a risk as he could be rested if they are travelling well.

GWS v Sydney

Gun:  Stephen Coniglio – Plenty dropping off this week, although with Kelly out his midfield time will increase, and his work rate means big scores while Shiel or Whitfield will get the Hewitt tag.

Captain Risky:  Rory Lobb – One massive score, playing against a team that gives up points in the Ruck, sounds juicy, if you know Rory Lobb it is actually just risky.

Gold Coast v Brisbane

Gun: Dayne Beams – Zorko for a tag if any, Beams to be free to show us all he should still be rated in the top ten scoring midfielders.

Captain Risky: Barlow – I have been recently talking the fond farewell games, this seems to be the opportunity for one of the best rookies ever to show us that scoring power. Please play him in the guts.

St Kilda v Hawthorn

Gun: Seb Ross – His last two weeks have been sensational, unsure if this can last but now looking like one of the bargains of the season.  136 average in his last three is so hard to ignore especially as he had an ADP of 54.

Captain Risky:  Ben McEvoy – Always risky to look at a player just back from injury but up against the Saints third string ruckman he could have a field day.

Carlton v Western Bulldogs

Gun:  Jack Macrae – Continues to show what a great fantasy player he is.  I will be honest that I have fallen yet again for not pick players that lose DPP.  A gun is a gun.

Captain Risky: Toby McLean – Has been off the rails since the shoulder injury.  Last week it looked like he was back and had more midfield time.  Against Carlton we will know for sure.

West Coast Eagles v Melbourne

Gun:  Elliot Yeo – Will I fall into the same trap when he loses DPP, a gun is a gun.

Captain Risky:  Max Gawn – Really worried that we have not heard anything this week, was it just a corky?  Feels very risky now as it seems they must play him to win rather that he is fully fit.

Adelaide v North Melbourne

Gun: Matt Crouch – with North Melbourne decreasing tags and becoming easier to score against then the magnet that is the younger Crouch should thrive, finished the season really well last year and looks likely again.

Captain Risky:  Rory Sloane – Has been a big miss this year for those that drafted him early but with North and Carlton to finish this season he might give owners a little finals reward.
