Gun – James Sicily
2018 Avg: 95.5AF | 105SC
I love when someone’s an absolute jet in both SC and AF, because it makes my job writing about them about 1000 times easier. That’s exactly what Sicdawg is. After starting his career in the forward half, yoda aka. Clarko threw him into defence and he had an absolute monster year as a result.
The caution with Sicdawg is the dawg part. He has a tendency to get suspended for being a bit of a dickhead, but it’s the same reason why I love watching him, and will probably bring him a tasty treat when I see the Hawks play.
There are two bits of relevant news coming out of the Hawks pre-season about Sicily. The first is that he has been the exclusive kickin taker. The second is some nimrod suggested they may swing Gunston and Sicily back and forward. It wasn’t Clarko, but it’s the exact thing you wouldn’t want to hear if you are looking to draft him…
That said, fuck the nimrod. I’m massively onboard, and will be drafting him if he makes it back to me on the 20/21 turn.

#Value – James Cousins0
2018 AVG: 50.5AF | 45SC
Everyone’s talking about the Worpel. And to be fair he is much more relevant than Cousins due to the DPP factor. But hear me out.
Every year, a couple of spots on my bench are made up of speculative picks. I drop them like it’s hot when they don’t perform, but if you get one right then it can completely change your season. James Cousins completely fits this bill, and because of his mid only tag, you can probably take him as your very last pick.
From the Hawks website “Cousins was quickly touted as Tom Mitchell’s replacement when the Brownlow medallist broke his leg in mid-January. The inside midfielder’s excellent performance in last week’s practice match against Carlton showed he is tracking along well ahead of the new season.”
It is also his #thirdyearbreakout opportunity… though he has only played 7 games across his first two seasons.
It’s hard to see him breaking the ton, but he could be a serviceable M7, and because you have paid with your last pick… that’s a bargain.

Tom Cruise Risky Business – The Chad
2018 AVG 82.3AF | 88.6SC
There’s a lot to like about Wingard this year. Moved to a new team, #moremidfiedtime has been touted, and this was only exacerbated by the Mitchell injury.
But what concerns me is what we don’t know.
There’s been no confirmation of more midfield time – most of the talk has been around the aforementioned Cousins and Worpel.
If he is given more midfield time, can his body hold up? Over the last 3 seasons he has had consistent soft tissue niggles, and whilst they haven’t seen him miss a lot of gametime, the frequency of them is certainly increasing. You could only imagine that more midfield minutes means a higher running load and potentially a higher susceptibility to soft tissue injuries.
Finally, his scoring history is some of the most sporadic of anyone in the league. His highs are commendable, but his lows will frustrate everyone.
He is going at an ADP of 45 at the moment, and I don’t think I have the Cajones to take him as my fifth pick.

Do Not Draft – Luke Breust
BREUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEUEUEUEUEUEUEUEUEUEUUUUUUUUUUST. I was legit just going to have this as the whole bit, but Steve was like wah wah wah wah. Bloody Steve and his “quality standards”
Last year was head and shoulders his career best output, with his previous averages floating in the 70’s. It just so coincided with the Hawks having a Brownlow medal winning clearance and disposal machine in Tom Mitchell. It won’t be the only detriment to his score, but I think it will at least play some part in bringing Breust back to his 70’s history.
What works in this lads favour is that he has a commendable tackles per game average (4 for the last 3 years) and a relatively high number of possessions for a forward of his ilk giving him a great base to start building his score.
The main reason I class him as a DND, is that someone in your league is going to pay for him expecting a similar output to last year. Let him go. Just… let him go. You can’t hold him back anymore. Let him go. Etc.
