Gun – Elliot Yeo

2018 Average:
AF  106.8 |  107.9 SC

Probably the player getting the least respect this draft season, Elliot Yeo was one of the most dominant midfielders in the AFL in 2018.

Fresh off flag success after playing his first year as a permanent midfielder (only once did Simpson revert to playing him in that abominable lock-down defender role early in the season), the former Yeo-Yeo became a pillar of consistency in the Eagles engine room.

The numbers on paper were impressive. Boasting a desirable 15.5 : 9 kick-to-handball ratio, Yeo chucked it on that belting right boot whenever he could. Rounding out the solid disposal count, was a mark average of 5.2 per outing to go with 6.7 tackles – good for 3rd in the AFL behind Devon Smith and Clayton Oliver.

Finishing 6th and 10th overall for total points in AFL Fantasy and SuperCoach respectively in 2018, for some reason Yeo is proving not to be a sexy name come draft night.

BT has been happy taking Yeo late in the 1st & early in the 2nd this draft szn.

His current ADP doesn’t necessarily reflect the man being described here – a reliable midfield scorer entering his prime at 25-years-old with a high ceiling (144 his AF season-high in the qualifying final while, while his 150 SC points came in round 4 verse Gold Coast).

While you may still have not forgiven the Yeo-Yeo of old for stinking up your seasons of the past, it’s time to FLAGive and FLAGet. Polling an impressive 15 votes last year, this year Elliot could be primed for a BrownlYEO season.

#Value –  Dom Sheed

2018 Average:
AFLF  74.3 |  72.6 SC

Sheed Island is filling up in draft szn 2019!

Following the Grand Final heroics…oh come on let’s watch it again!

Seriously, why’d the Doctors assign this article to a Weaglez supporter? #flagz

Sheed Island has undergone a serious transformation and seen a massive influx in population since that fateful day.

No one would have blamed the natives of the once desolate and isolated island, Archie of Over The Line Sports and Fox of The Coaches Panel, from abandoning the almost inhabitable conditions in mid-2018.

Despite a form slump during year 5 of the promising young midfielders career, resulting in several stints in the WAFL during the 2018 season, the die-hard believers of #SheedIsland stayed as strong as ever, believing their beloved boy would bounce back in a big way.

And that he did.

The once modest Sheed Island pictured with its native inhabitants in 2017.

Dom Sheed re-entered the West Coast side in round 21 as a straight replacement for the suspended Andrew Gaff, managing to cement his spot in the side with the absence of his All-Australian teammate.

Playing in the final 6 games of the season, including the penultimate Grand Final, Sheed averaged 96 AFL Fantasy points and 97.7 SuperCoach points.

Following a dominant display in the 2019 JLT Community Series (39 disposals/136AF/144SC & 40 disposals/123AF/134SC), Sheed Island is establishing itself as a hot destination for drafters!

Tom Cruise Risky Business – Andrew Gaff

2018 Average:
AFLF  110.7 |  108.2 SC

Andrew Gaff was having a sensational year last year. The 26-year-old averaged a career-high in disposals (30.7) while having his best season from a fantasy perspective.

While Gaff should have another strong season for the reigning premiers, picking him early in draft leagues is filled with risk, largely due to the fact he will be missing the first 2 games of the season due to that justifiably hefty suspension.

Recently credited with giving “the GOAT advice” by a listener, Stevie Fizz dropped some wisdom on us in the latest podcast, as to why he has moved Andrew Gaff outside his top 10 midfielders in his updated ranks.

“It’s really nothing to do with him,” GOAT Fizz said.

“We know he’s missing the first 2 weeks and that plays into it.

“But I’ve become more convinced of some of the other guys around him.

“I’ve become more convinced on Clayton Oliver – I’ve become more convinced on Rory Sloane – I’ve become more convinced on Angus Brayshaw.

“Those guys aren’t missing the first 2 rounds and are potentially captain-able options as well.”

Whilst Andrew Gaff could also present some #value if your draft cools on his stock – or if you’re in the Dockers fan club draft – it pays to be wary of the missed games and the opportunity cost of spending the early pick.

Do Not Draft – Bailey Williams

2018 Average: (NA – Rookie)

This is the only time I will ever write the words: do not draft Bailey Williams.

If you have done your pre-ranks correctly and brought a mullet donning, moustache rocking, arguably top 10 defender-worthy Bailey Williams way up your boards…you are doing it RIGHT!

Unfortunately, this particular Bailey Williams is not the man you are looking for.

No, he is not the man who dropped 56 disposals in a Glenelg Under 18 game. He is the Eagles 18-year-old raw ruck prospect, who will likely spend his rookie season in the WAFL.
