Late Week Pickups – Round 3

Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.

Harry Himmelberg: Harry is in just 12% of teams and with the Giants taking on the Tigers this weekend we should see the GWS forwards get a nice score.

While Harry isn’t exactly a fantasy beast when coming to scoring, we know the Tigers are without their 2 best defenders in Rance and Grimes. That leaves Astbury who is their next best defender to take Cameron, leaving Himmelberg with the likes of a Garthwaite.

The Giants have been averaging just under 60 inside 50’s a match so far in 2019, so expect Himmelberg and the other Giants forwards to see a lot of shots on goal.

Adam Kennedy: Another Giants player who is in 63% of teams. I Kennedy as a late week pickup and even a stash. Averaging 84 SuperCoach and 78 AFL Fantasy to start 2019.

This is due to Kennedy up his marks per game by 3 to average 8 a game and his possessions are up by 2 to average 19.5 a game. The splits on those possessions are 14 kicks and 5.5. handballs a game which is 4 more kicks and 2 less handballs a game than last year. That’s the kind of ratio we like to see when building fantasy scores.

Sam Gray: Gray is in for his first game of 2019 and what a game to be in for. Gray’s record against the Lions is simply amazing.

In 5 games against the Lions, Gray averages 103 SuperCoach and 93 AFL Fantasy points. When looking at late week pickups, its all about the numbers and these numbers are awesome. His highest score in SuperCoach is 131 and 109 in AFL Fantasy.

He is in just 39% of teams and for a guy who has never scored less than 80 in AFL Fantasy against the Lions and has 3/5 SuperCoach 100’s, I’d be getting this guy into my team before your league mates do.

Bailey Fritsch: Man does it suck that this guy is a mid-only. Fritsch is in 65% of teams but would be much higher if he had fwd status.

Fritsch has only played the Bombers once with a score of 90 in SuperCoach and 88 in AFL Fanatsy. If you’re desperate for a mid, this isn’t the worst option out there.

  1. Thoughts on Taberner? Looks promising as a forward option, can he avg around the 85 mark all season?

    1. Hi Jason, yeah I like him this year. Scored well from a sample size last year and with lobb and hogan in the team he gets the 3rd defender. I own him in a couple of my leagues as well
