Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.

Jack Darling: Oh dear. Last year he was the Darling of fantasy football (yeah, I went there), this year he has failed to recapture that form. Because of this his ownership has dropped to 66%.

Darling may be out of form, but the Eagles are taking on the Gold Coast Suns who have been known to leak a goal or 3. In the same game last year, Darling went 120 in SuperCoach and 103 in AFL Fantasy for a career average of 80 in SuperCoach and 71 in AFL Fantasy.

Jason Castagna: George is up against the Dogs this week and one thing the Dogs are good at this year is allowing opposition to score. In just 8% of teams you’ll easily find Castagna in your free agency pool.

The Tigers are good at keeping the ball inside their forward 50 and their game is built on pressure. Last week against Melbourne, Castagna kicked 3 and laid 4 tackles. In the same game last year, Castagna finished with 81 AFL Fantasy and 76 SuperCoach points.

Defenders v Dogs: In the game last week, we saw Freo defenders score quite well. Even Joel Hamling managed to punch out a 91 in SuperCoach. I’d be looking at a few of the Tigers defenders this week as the Dogs tend to bomb the ball inside 50. Some lowly owned Tigers defenders are Sydney Stack at 45% and if Joel Hamling can score well then, I’m going to throw Dylan ‘Frank’ Grimes in the mix who is at 5% ownership.

Defenders v Swans: The Swans are having a shocker this year and struggling to score goals this year. Last week we saw GWS defenders all score well and this week it’s the Lions turn. Some lower owned Lions defenders I’m looking at are Josh Walker in 57% of teams and Noah Answerth at 38% ownership.
