Each week I’ll be looking at players who are sitting in the free agency pool that can be used in your matchup that can give you a little extra scoring power. When using these players, I use Ultimate Footy’s ownership of 65% or less to give everyone a go for those that play in bigger leagues.

The bye rounds are upon us and it means we are looking at players to fill the gaps of our regular players.

David Armitage comes in for his first game for the year, after an injury to Jack Steele will see him miss some games. In just 46% of teams Armitage should see some midfield minutes and is up against the Gold Coast Suns. Armitage has scored well against the Suns in the past with an average of 92 in SuperCoach and 83 in AFL Fantasy. Armitage has forward eligibility as well which makes him a little more appealing as well.

Carlton this week are up against the Bulldogs who have been giving up points to players at both ends of the ground. Harry McKay who is only in 36% of teams, absolutely monstered the Dogs and scored 153 SuperCoach and 128 AFL Fantasy points when he snagged 4 goals and took 11 marks. At the other end of the ground you have Jacob Weitering at 27% ownership who has been up and down but has scored 2 SuperCoach 100’s this year and a top score of 88 in AFL Fantasy. Also, in the backline is Lachie Plowman at 32% ownership has been fine, without putting up massive numbers but did score 104 in SuperCoach and 86 in AFL Fantasy against the Dogs a few weeks ago.

Paul Ahern has been named to face the GWS this week. In 27% of teams, Ahern should come in to replace the injured Shaun Higgins. In his 11 games last year he averaged 21 possessions, 2 marks and 2.5 tackles a game. There has been speculation as to who will get the De Boer tag this week. If it is Ziebell or Cunnington, then there will be a small bump for Ahern if named.
