Okay then, round 2 is in the books and if you’re anything like the West Coast eagles, you’re probably in need of some topping up from your waiver wires. I’ll be looking into guys with low ownership that could bolster your team’s strength/depth going forward. I’ll also make mention of some high scorers from the round past that seem like mirages and ARE NOT worthy of sacrificing your waiver priority for.

Here are the guys worth using a waiver bid on:

BRAD CLOSE (110 AF/138 SC) – FWD

He needed 4 goals to build this score but even if he hadn’t kicked straight, he’d have still scored decently. Tonning up against the Swans in a loss can’t be ignored, especially as a forward listed player.

TRISTAN XERRI (92 AF/120 SC) – RUC/FWD

The absence of Nic Nat (and about 15 first-rate players) definitely helped here, but that’s 2 weeks in a row where Xerri has passed the eye test. There is plenty of salary hype around this bloke and he will be a hot commodity this week, being a forward listed player spending bulk time in the ruck.

CHAD WARNER (87 AF/123 SC) – MID

I really like this guy’s game and he looks more than adept in the contest. Could he be one to supersede JPK in the engine room at the Swans? I really like him as an M7 this year and the third year breakout could be on.

TRENT RIVERS (75 AF/80 SC) – DEF

I reckon this type of scoring is Rivers’ basement and with Salem sitting out the next 5-7 weeks, there is some upside here too. He’ll play as a more than capable D4/5 while Salem is out and has a decent fixture in that time as well.

JAKE BOWEY (125 AF/151 SC) – DEF

Sheeeeeesh… I’d heard his name mentioned by a few pundits preseason, but surely this kind of performance wasn’t in their prophecies! Like Rivers, the Salem absence will benefit Bowey, but still, those scores can’t be ignored. Just put in your bid and hope no one above you looks at the free agent list before Tuesday morning.

DYLAN STEPHENS (89 AF/95 SC) – MID

He’s playing a tidy outside game for the Swans at the moment and is another one who could see a boost in scoring during his third season in the league. The Swans look to be legitimate contenders right now, and that could mean the production of some lesser-knowns increases.

CHARLIE CURNOW (100 AF/113 SC)FWD

More like CurYES! He looked like a different player this week and you just have to take the punt on him if you’re in need of a forward.

TRENT COTCHIN (86 AF/103 SC) – MID

SIGGHHHHHH… he’s the epitome of a player who gets passed around your league, not by trade, but through drops and adds and has honestly been the most boring midfielder to own in like, the last 7 years. With that said, Dusty is out for God knows how long and Richmond’s midfield depth is more like midfield shallowth. He’s a fine M7 for now, I guess.

These are the round 2 performers that I believe you should NOT waste a waiver priority on:

PETER WRIGHT (103 AF/120 SC) – RUC/FWD

I like 2 Meter Peter, and these scores impress against a tough Lions team, but as a key forward playing for a seemingly average team, I just don’t see him being consistent.

SAM PETREVSKI-SETON (92 AF/92 SC) – DEF

The Eagles are just missing so many first choice players right now and his role and possibly spot in the team is not secure. Add to that the clear and present covid-danger that the Perth teams appear to be facing and I just don’t feel SPS has much value going forward.

KAYNE TURNER (90 AF/98 SC) – DEF

Always shows glimpses during a season but is prone to scores that can really harm your team. He won’t be playing a WAFL team each week and his lack of consistency as a defense eligible player is perturbing.

NICK LARKEY (110 AF/ 134 SC) FWD

He’s a key position forward for a bad team and you just can’t trust that on a weekly basis. He’s more of a streamer against the right opposition (for example, 40% of the West Coast Eagles).

That’s all for today. It’s my birthday tomorrow and I’m hungover from the precursory celebrations of the weekend. Get me on Twitter if you have any thoughts or feedback: @lionelhutz4prez
