Dusty owners will want to pay close attention this week, as will Aaron Hall owners, who got the shock of their life when he, like Dusty, suffered yet another soft-tissue injury. Dan Houston is also in doubt to play next round, as is Dayne Zorko and Daniel Rich. Oh, and it’s barely news but Elliot Yeo got hurt again too. I guess these guys carry the injury prone label for a reason, eh? Don’t get mad – get wired.
Here are the guys you should aim for with your waiver priority this week:
Jaidyn Stephenson (98 AF/86 SC) – MID/FWD
He was playing a newly appointed half-back role in Hall’s absence and looked decent; he even took some kick-ins. These are the types of role changes we are looking for at this time of season, as they can yield some late waiver wire gold.
Peter Wright (86 AF/87 SC) – RUCK/FWD
2MP is a Stream Team favourite, but after 3 good weeks on the trot, you just have to pick him up/hold onto him if he’s still available. I still wouldn’t rely on him fully, but his DPP status makes him great bench cover.
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (74 AF/63 SC) – DEF/MID
I reckon this kid will be a coveted fantasy asset in years to come. He’s a smooth mover coming out of defence for the Saints knows how to find the footy. If you really need a D5/bench cover, I don’t mind the grab here.
Josh Daicos (86 AF/101 SC) – MID
He has scored servicably in the past fortnight and has a nice run coming up, with games against North, Adelaide and Essendon.
Lachie Ash (92 AF/92 SC) – MID/DEF
Ash has been sneaky good over the past 3 weeks, and he’s getting the midfield time to make him a handy D4/5. My only concern would be Hopper’s return, which looks like it will come this week after playing in the 2s on the weekend.
Izak Rankine (90 AF/110 SC) – FWD
He requires goals to build his score, so I like this pick more in SC leagues. With that said, Rankine has been in goal kicking form over the past 3 weeks and his last 4 games of the season are friendly, coming up against North, West Coast and Hawthorn.
Here are the deceptive scores of round 16 AKA the players you can leave on the wire:
Jake Kelly (99 AF/85 SC) – DEF
Yes, he’s put 2 good weeks in a row together, but Kelly has seldom displayed fantasy relevance and these scores still feel anomalous to me. He even snuck up for a goal in this one – his first and only goal since moving to Essendon.
Callum Brown (96 AF/102 SC) – DEF/FWD
He was the late replacement for Lachie Keefe and impressed with 4 goals in the wet. He may keep his spot, but he won’t keep up this kind of scoring or anything close to it.
Wayne Milera (77 AF/88 SC) – DEF/FWD
Don’t be tempted by this. His role is still that of a high half-forward and it just isn’t a reliable scoring role. The Crows are also shithouse.
