Round 14 Injuries

That’s a wrap folks! The byes are over! There are about 101 gifs that I would love to stick here, however to remain on #brand, I will save them for the twitterverse. For those not on twitter, just imagine a lot of celebratory style gifs, including but not limited to:

Kip Dynamite “yes”

Daniel Bryan “YES!”

Steve Harvey “Thank you Jesus”

Will Farrell “Awesome, Yes” *punches cereal boxes*

Robert Downey Jr. “Phew”

I could go on, but you get the picture (if you search).

The byes mark the run home before the Fantasy finals, with most leagues having 5 game-weeks left. Right now, is the absolute worst time to cop even a simple hammy whomp, as a 3-4 weeker could be the difference between a spot in the top 4, and a last place playoff. Good luck, and may the absolute worst be rewarded with a Gary Busey like trophy.

Mid-week Madness!

Speaking of whomps; Whomp there it is (Tag Team yall!). Eddie Betts reinjured the same hammy that he originally tweaked in their round four loss to the Pies. He has been pretty putrid all year, much like the rest of the Crows. I’m not angry Eddie, I’m just disappointed.

Prognosis – 4 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Expect Milera to go back to a more attacking role, Hampton to come in down back.

Earlier this year, the sadder of the two Scott’s said that Jarrad Waite’s best football was still ahead of him. Although he has been restricted to just 8 games so far, the guy has put up the best Fantasy numbers of his career… which is now likely over due to ANOTHER calf strain. Waite said that the injury won’t play a part in deciding his future, but I don’t think it is his choice to make.

Prognosis – Career

Potential Waiver Pickup – Ben Jacobs will slot back in, and Mason Wood will play primarily forward to fill the gap. Jacobs has been inconsistent, but fairly serviceable. If you are in dire need of a mid, you could go worse than picking him up.

I reported last week that JJK had picked up a niggle, and it turned out to be a tiny hairline fracture. This guy is built of paper this year, having only played 7 rounds for his worst fantasy output since 2012. Kick him to the local Subiaco coffee shop, you can find better on the waiver.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – He was close to playing this week, and he should be good to go next week. No waiver here.

Jon Ceglar, three games back from a knee reconstruction, unfortunately suffered an ACL. That’s right. A Corked Leg. He should be good to go next week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Rory Thompson suffered a hammy whomp at some point in last week’s loss. The Fantasy community breathes a collective yawn.

Prognosis – 2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Brayden Crossley might get another look, but I find it hard to consider any GC waivers.

Eagles vs Dons

Mason Redman was the main injury concern for the bombers, hobbling around on crutches after the game. He has shown same good signs in his first couple of games – 92, and 71 in this injury impacted hit out. One to watch in the keepers.

Prognosis – 2 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Jordan Ridley will go close if Mason misses a couple. Ridley also has a fantasy friendly game and had 29 possessions in the VFL this week.

Josh Green and Jake Stringer (aka Girl with a Shithouse Tattoo) both picked up niggles, however the Dons have a few extra days to get these guys right. Just Thursday game things.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

A big welcome to the injury list anyone that thought the Eagles were actually a flag chance. They had a ripper run, but lack any form of depth to carry that momentum in to September.

Prognosis – Finals – Early Exit

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver here

Power vs Dees

A couple of niggles to both teams in this one, however neither team expect to lose any of the players for a week so I’m going to run through them in rapid fire (pew pew pew [so rapid!])

Neville Jetta got bashed up AND rolled his ankle, but he is durable AF.

Tom Maccas copped a pretty nasty hit to his ribs, and pending scans should be right to go.

Riley Bonner missed some of the first quarter with a hand injury, in what we can only assume is attributed to hours upon hours of Fortnight.

Todd Marshall had his cheek examined, but was able to finish the game.

Suns(yawn) vs Hawks

Tassie are copping a lot of schtick for having low attendance numbers to Hawks/Roo’s games that are played down there at the moment, and I think it’s absolutely rubbish. The Suns can’t even maintain strong numbers at home. The play a predictable (long ball down the line) brand of boring footy, with intensity for the first two quarters (if we’re lucky). Give Tassie a team of their own, and I reckon they would be out there every week, even through winter.

Sam Day was moved in defense to cover the injured Rory Thompson because there are no other genuine tall defenders left at the club. So, spare a thought for Stuart Dew who watched Sam clutch his shoulder late in the game. He will go for scans to determine the severity of the injury.

Prognosis – 2-4 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – As mentioned earlier, Brayden Crossley to come back in.

Shaun Burgoyne had a hammy issue misdiagnosed in the final term. The claim was a twinge, I thought it was awareness, and then Clarko came out and said it’s just because he is old. He stole my line damnit. I would be surprised if, given his vintage, they don’t give him another rest in the lead-up to finals. May as well make that now to get him right.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Ceglar will return next week. Daniel Howe may be floating around some waivers this week as cruel coaches may drop him for his worst score in a while. I for one will be waiting to swoop.

Giants vs Lions

The big one here that will affect mainly those in the SuperCoach format, Harris Andrews got absolutely KTFO by Jeremy Cameron that will impact both players. Jezza will cop at least 2-3 weeks for careless head contact, high impact. Harris is guaranteed to miss at least this week.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – Regardless of what I say here, all anyone is going to be doing is rushing for the Luggage. So, I guess go get him.

Dogs vs North

Delayed concussion effects forced Ben Jacobs to be a late withdrawal for this game. He has been a ripper this year in all formats to be honest. Very serviceable. Should play next week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver

Last Chance Saloon (aka Billy Hartung) replaced Ben Jacobs, and then came off midway through the second term with a hammy whomp. Judging by the ice location. This was a lower hammy, which are often considered to be better. Scans will reveal how bad it is on Monday.

Prognosis – 2-3 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Ben Jacobs will return next week. Also, Dumont finally showed up to the season, setting the world on fire in the 3rd/4th quarter. Keep an eye on him.

Jackson Trengrove had his night end early, coming off in the final quarter with an ankle injury. Scans set to reveal the severity on Monday.

Prognosis – 2-3 weeks

Potential Waiver Pickup – Suckers was close this week, I think he will come in.

Are brain fades considered an injury? When one commits an act that is so outrageously terrible/odd that it can only be described as a cerebral injury? If so… Mitch Wallis suffered a massive brain fade in the final 40 seconds of this game, which directly resulted in a match winning goal to North. You could almost feel him losing money every second that the ball drifted towards the boundary line, each meter closer to the line another 5k removed from contract negotiations.

Prognosis – Will still get picked up by GC or Carlton for 500k.

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver.

Blues vs Pies

Levi Casboult was a late out, breaking his finger in the warm up.

Prognosis – 2-3 weeks (pending severity)

Potential Waiver Pickup – Jarrod Pickett had a decent second hit out in the two’s and might come back in as a small forward.

Matty Kreuzer, the big unit, went down with an ankle injury in the second quarter, tried to come back on and play out the game but was ruled out at half time. He is going to go for scans tomorrow but it didn’t look good.

Prognosis – 2-6 weeks (pending scans)

Potential Waiver Pickup – Andrew Phillips I guess? *shrugs*

Lachie Plowman was involved in a tackle that didn’t look all that bad, but then went down clutching his knee. After getting an Uber off the field, it was later revealed to be medial damage, NOT an ACL. He will be assessed over the coming days.

Prognosis – Fantasy Season (pending scans)

Potential Waiver Pickup – The Blues should have a host of ins next week, one to keep an eye on… as I say almost every week… Marchbank.

Levi Greenwood left the ground after getting smashed by Daisy Thomas. Remember when Levi was good? He had that one season at the Roos where he averaged 101. 2014. Good times.

Prognosis – 1 week

Potential Waiver Pickup – I sure hope it is time to see Brayden Sier at senior level. He was close this week.

Adam Treloar almost gave me one final whomp to write about when he went off late in the game against the Blues, however he has confirmed that it was just both his hammy’s cramping at the same time and thinks he will be fit to play next week.

Prognosis – No issue

Potential Waiver Pickup – No waiver
