A DOZEN DEALS – ROUND 7

EACH WEEK I’ll be bringing you my thoughts on which players to BUY, SELL, HOLD, ADD and DROP in AFL Draft Leagues.  The moves are based on a 10 team redraft league with 22 players per team, so if your league is shallower, deeper or keeper, use your best judgement as to what moves apply.  Remember no-one HAS to trade with you, but the least you can do is make offers to try improve your team.  Also consider your league set up and team structure before making a move.  This is a list about value and treating your team as something that is constantly evolving to try get it as solid as it can be.  As I always say, “if you ain’t trading, you ain’t trying!”  You can hear the rest of my thoughts each week as part of the Draft Doctors Podcast released each Monday and Friday (unless there’s a Thursday game, in which case, it’s a day earlier).

BUY – JASPER PITTARD (D) – SUPERCOACH ONLY – I say buy in SC only as Pittard is currently MASHING in DT, averaging a fantastic 97 ppg, with career highs in disposals and marks, but for the first time his SC is poorer than his DT average.  We must remember that Pittard is only now getting going having missed time with an injury.  I feel his SC average will most likely catch up to his DT average making him a good buy candidate.  Also, we’ve received messages from frustrated Pittard owners so it’s fair to say that indicates a good buying window.  Will get a chance to rest following the China match with Port’s bye, I like that.

SELL – MICHAEL HIBBERD (D) – The signs are worrying.  Looking at the older returning players who were suspended for 12 months – they’ve struggled.  Hibberd came in and went crackers in his first match back.  The second, he started huge before fading in the second half.  Last week, was good in the first before fading again.  The signs are worrying that Hibberd isn’t going to be a D1 or 2.  His average is still inflated from the first game.  Sell.

ADD – MICHAEL WALTERS (F) – Looks to be getting midfield minutes with Steve Hill still a week or two away.  Don’t love the matchup with the early game in Melbourne, so might be better for your bench, but you could do worse.

ADD – AARON MULLETT (D) – The North defender has been flying a long way under the radar with low ownership through the first 6 weeks, before missing last week.  If he’s on your waiver wire, make sure he’s not!

ADD – JACK SINCLAIR (F) – Two games for the latest Saint Jack, and two handy fantasy scores.  Double digit contested possessions is a great sign.  Lowly owned, deserves to be in teams especially with more games under the lid for the Saints.

DROP – MITCH ROBINSON (M) – Unless you’re in a league where he’s added forward status (and even then I’d seriously consider it), dropping Robinson is a no-brainer with the hard nut set to miss ten weeks, including the bye rounds.  Not worth carrying, I’d certainly look for some upside elsewhere.

DROP – JOSH DUNKLEY (M/F) – Bad luck for the young Dog with a long stint on the sidelines coming.  Not worth holding until the edge of fantasy finals, no guarantee to come back in once they roll around either.

BUY – PATRICK CRIPPS (M) – Cripps is starting to round into some nice form and has improved his kick to handball ratio also.  We know what a great contested player he is and like him going forward this year.  Average is still beaten down from round one score, he missed a good chunk of preseason so there’s a reason for the slow start.  Definitely trying to pry this star away from his current owner.

SELL – NICK RIEWOLDT (F) – Big call trading out someone who you likely drafted early and is likely your F1 but I’m a bit worried about Rooey.  Didn’t look great on the weekend, despite the Saints winning.  Will he get rested?  Will his form taper?  When the end comes, it comes REAL QUICK.  Obviously you’re going to want a good deal to get it done.  Or you might just say ‘screw you, Fizz, Nick’s gonna be fine’.  Can’t blame you there either.

BUY – JOSH P KENNEDY (M) – Off to a usual paced start, we know JPK traditionally starts slower than he finishes and this year is no exception.  Coming off three successive sub 100 games, I like taking a gamble on this guy having a big finish to 2017.  Still the main man in the middle at the Swans, a gun is a gun.  Last year he also had a run of 3 sub 100 DT games between rounds 4 and 6.  Only had 3 more for the whole season.

HOLD – ANDREW GAFF (M) –  Training reports have Gaff as looking pretty sore, so in looking at his latest scores, he might be a bit down because he’s carrying an injury.  Still not killing you in SC, he’s not someone I’m throwing a big offer at as he’s not a noted SC stud, and in DT his hot start keeps his average high, thus requiring a good offer.  I’m certainly not getting lowballed if I’m a Gaff owner, either.

ADD – TIM O’BRIEN (F) – If you need a pure forward stream for the week, this is probably the guy.  Will be available at very least!

Those are the deals for the week, good luck in your trading and matchups!
