Each week we’ll look at captain options outside the big boys as there is only one Brodie Grundy in each league. So, we are going to look at the underbelly of the weekly contests that hopefully can unearth some unique skipper options, including those in the loop hole games. Yes some will be risky but that could be the difference of you getting your league win and stay in the hunt for finals action this year.
Captain Loophole
With Thursday nights back on the agenda we get the double hit of VC options over the next three weeks. It is now so important with only 6 games that we all make use of this to try and get at least 2 wins on the board over the bye rounds.
Simple version of how it works. Place your “V” vice-captain on one of your players that is either playing Thursday or Friday night (This week its Adelaide, Richmond, Essendon and Hawthorn) and surely everyone has a player from one of these four teams. If they score over a ton (100) place the “C” captain on to a round 13 (Non-playing player) and take the double hit.
This is not salary cap so we all have less options for a captain hence the lower mark, which in salary cap maybe anywhere between 110-120.
If you VC has a shocker, then move your captain to a player who has a good chance to score well in the Saturday or Sunday games.
Best unique skipper options from this week remaining clashes:
Gold Coast v St Kilda
Gun: Jack Billings: Gold Coast are starting to struggle a little bit, which does mean they are looking to tag a little more and although Jack may be considered there is a much greater chance that he goes big this week, repaying his owners after a couple of poor scores in his past two games.
Captain Risky: Rowan Marshall. He had a great year and just signed an extension. Although this week he is up against the clear number three ruck in the game this year. Can he get enough ball around the ground to cover the loss of hit outs?
Fremantle v Port Adelaide
Gun: Nat Fyfe: Just don’t see who would be able to stop him this week, and with a lack of talls you would most likely see him rest up forward just a little more and that can mean a few more plus 12’s in his wheelbag this week.
Captain Risky: Robbie Gray: Mid or forward is the real question here, now I assume at selection we may see Rockliff and Wines back. If that happens his risk levels rise.
Carlton v Western Bulldogs
Gun: Josh Dunkley: Has been fantastic since his return to the midfield. Yes the Blues pressure was great last week and could continue but this man loves it hard and tough. I avoided Patrick Cripps here, doesn’t he get a heavy tag now?
Captain Risky: Jack Macrae: We are all on Jack watch, will his role return? With Tom Mitchell out injured he was expected to be the number 1 mid this year. Not the value you would have expected from the number 1 or 2 draft pick. Just maybe that will change.
North Melbourne v GWS
Gun: Josh Kelly: With so many gun players this man seems hardest to stop so while fit and firing you just have to go with him. Has not scored below 100 this year. Who would be silly enough to trade him out you say?
Captain Risky: Goldy: Mummy looks like he can hurt still, but not the oppositions scores. If you can run you can score on Mummy. ROB showed us, can Goldy do the same and post a big one this week?
